Rotenstein, Küsnacht ZH
Since 2024, a species-rich natur area has been under development on a meadow at the edge of the forest above the municipality of Küsnacht. The aim is to create a diverse flower meadow, a dry meadow, an amphibian pond, hedges and small structures, such as piles of old wood and sand lenses. This is intended to promote the Adonis blue butterfly, which is classified as vulnerable in the Swiss Plateau as well as other rare species. It is expected that the ecological value of this area will improve from 2–3 biotope values to at least 5.
The area will complement an existing fen, as well as several dry meadows and hedges, optimally connecting these habitats with the nearby forest.
The project partners are Naturnetz Pfannenstil, municipality of Küsnacht (land owner) and farmer Roger Müller (tennant).
